Student Leadership

At Rosebank College student leadership is a vital part of school life. Opportunities for leadership start in Year 7 and are broadened as students enter their senior study years.

Student Leaders are led by two College Captains and two Vice Captains. All Leaders are expected to follow a code of conduct which includes respect, participation and being committed to the leadership role. When Student Leaders leave Rosebank College they are equipped with a range of skills and experience that take them well beyond the school years into tertiary education and the workforce. Student Leaders take part in a range of activities that teach them to organise and run events, network with other student leaders, participate in leadership activities that help them to identify their own leadership style, motivate and work with a team. We value our Student Leaders and want to provide them with meaningful, quality leadership experiences to take with them on their post-school journey.

Rosebank has built a model of ‘four spheres’ of leadership, based on the Benedictine principle of ‘leadership through service’. Leadership at Rosebank is geared towards helping others to exceed their own expectations. The four spheres of leadership include:

Student Representation: Council of Students (SRC) and Student Forum

The SRC and Student Forum are the Voice of our students. It enables them to voice opinions, to contribute to the College agenda and allows students to identify the goals of the student body and to propose strategies to meet those goals. The Forum is made up of students from Year 7-11 and is facilitated by the Captains and Vice Captains of the College. Members of the Forum are drawn from the SRC.

Mentoring

The Mentoring Program is the Shield for our students. It is dedicated to developing students into adults and to establish relationships that are based on mutual respect, trust and a two-way communication process. Mentoring provides an opportunity for sharing skills and experiences so students can develop their own personal and educational goals.

Mentoring is facilitated at Rosebank through various Programs including the Peer Support Program. Newly arrived Year 7 students are mentored by a team of trained Year 10 Peer Support Leaders. The Program involves ongoing sessions and activities throughout Year 7, as well as the Year 7 Orientation Camp, where Year 10 Peer Support Leaders are involved. Mentoring is also facilitated through the Pastoral Care Program which is run by Home Room Teachers and House Coordinators.

Mentoring of Senior Students – This program allows mentoring of senior students by teachers at the College. This program is focused on helping students achieve their personal and educational goals, and to learn how to juggle their many commitments to ensure their success in senior study.

Student House System

The House System is the Daily Face of the student body. The eight Houses are named after significant men and women in the history of the College. Two House Captains are responsible for each of the Houses (Brady, Cassidy, Caulfield, Delaney, Dwyer, McLaughlin, O’Connor and Vaughan). As well as the annual Swimming and Athletics Carnivals, House Captains encourage their fellow students to positively contribute to all aspects of College life. They work closely with House Coordinators organising House events, running House Meetings and supporting the charities allocated to each House. They also lead the organisation and running of House based competitions (sporting and otherwise) within the College.

Student Service Groups

The Service Groups are the Hands of the student body and they work to promote community within the College and serve the wider community through fundraising and social justice activities. The Service Groups are: Social Justice, Culture and Identity, Fundraising and Environment. Each group has its own agenda for the year and hold events at the school to promote the ideals and principles of their group. These groups are open to participation from younger students who have an interest or passion in that area.
