Learning Support (G&T, ESL, Literacy & Numeracy, Special Needs)

The Learning Support department works with students who possess a variety of learning needs, including those with learning difficulties, gifted and talented students and students from non-English speaking backgrounds. A team of dedicated and professional teachers and teachers’ aides work with students to:

  • Provide Literacy Intervention groups in Years 7, 8 and 9
  • Provide regular in-class support
  • Withdraw students to focus on classwork and assessment tasks
  • Withdraw students for small group work in a particular subject
  • Assist teachers to make adjustments to resources, classwork and assessments to suit the individual needs of all students
  • Apply for and provide Special Provisions in Years 10, 11 and 12 for examinations
  • Work towards a differentiated curriculum for all students (including enrichment and extension)

The College’s Gifted & Talented program consists of the InnovatED and InspirED modules designed to motivate and engage accelerated learners in Years 7 to 10. Eligible Year 8 and 9 students undertake individual learning InnovatED projects. Students are withdrawn from class to work with a mentor on projects designed to foster their analytical skills and independent learning. Students in Years 7 to 10 are offered a range of full day workshops through InspirED, designed to develop critical and creative problem solving skills. Workshops include:

  • Sydney Writers’ Festival
  • G&T Ethics Conference
  • Robotics
  • Forensic Science
  • Science & Engineering Challenge
  • da Vinci Decathlon

Academic Scholarships are also offered for students in Year 7.
